Here comes fall!!

If you're like me, you are probably thrilled to welcome in the fall season (the BEST season)!  Cooler weather, breezy days, and of course the autumn colors.  There is no greater beauty than the woods all decked out in their fall finery!

The Missouri Department of Conservation marks October 10th-17th as the peak time to enjoy fall colors and states that this year's display should be especially good, thanks to our abundant September rain!

Labor Day Weekend with Show-Me Trail

Labor Day Weekend:  September 4-6, 2010 up at Big River Ranch with activities planned each day.  There will be fun shows, trail rides, outdoor movies and campfires, and awesome bbq all weekend long!

• Meals will be available for $6 per person: Breakfast 7:00-8:30am and Supper 5:30-7:00pm
• 2-hour Trail Rides will be offered 9:00-11:00am, 12:00-2:00pm, and 3:00-5:00pm
• Camp sites are available w/full electric and water hook up, or primitive camping. You can book a campout with Show-Me Trail and let us take care of all the equipment.

Last chance for a summer ride!

Okay, I know it's hot.  Really HOT.  But the days of summer are numbered and it may be your last chance to get out and ride this summer! 

Those of you with kids have probably noticed the look of despair on their faces as the last of their freedom slips away... You could take them school-supply shopping and really drive the point home that summer is almost over.  OR, you could book a trail ride and revel in these glorious sunny days!!
Some summer riding tips:

• To avoid the hottest part of the day, book your ride for the morning, or evening.  Morning rides through the dewy grass offer some of the best glimpses of wildlife, and evening rides into the sunset are beautiful along the river!
• Dress appropriately.  Less clothing is not always best - a long-sleeved cotton shirt in a light color, some well-worn pants, and a hat are best for keeping the sun and bugs off and will go a long way to keeping you cool.  Think of the old cowboys; they knew what they were doing!
• Prepare to get wet.  When the horses get hot and thirsty, they will wade into the pond or splash in a puddle from time to time.  And you are going to get sweaty; it's called being "outside".  Embrace it and let the passing breeze cool you down!
• Drink lots of water, of course, and bring some for the trail.  Jeff provides sturdy saddle bags for your ride to pack with water bottles, and maybe a snack or two.

Cowboy Gathering makes the news!!

Just a friendly reminder that the 1st Annual Cowboy Gathering and Trade Show is THIS weekend at Big River Ranch, in Lexington, MO.  There is a lot going on the whole weekend, in addition to some great opportunities to go on trailrides!

The exciting part is that the Cowboy Gathering has made the local news!!  Check out KMBC (Channel 9) news this evening at 5pm, 6pm, and 10pm to see some of the cowboys in action, including Jeff!  They'll be struttin' their stuff and talking about some of the events they have planned for this weekend.  Way to go, guys!
